Agents

Agents:

August- December 2021

ZKM | Hertz Lab

The audiovisual installation Agents simulates the behavior of living beings with algorithmically controlled digital creatures. To this end, many sensory aspects of reality are modeled in a natural but clearly artificial way. Visitors are located by a camera system and can thus interact with the creatures. Each shows a different behavior. The creatures also interact with each other. This reveals a complex combination of simple patterns of behavior. Visitors and creatures are not only acoustically perceptible through sounds, but can also be located in their positions using a spatial sound system.

In the case of agents, many algorithms act completely independently and perceive information through certain interfaces, comparable to eyes and ears. This type of algorithmic action generates complex behavior even though the individual creatures are not particularly intelligent.

Technical Write up

The project was made in colaboration with Bernd Linitermann and Ludger Brummer. I developed the visual and interctive part. The interaction was made using Unity and the visuals were made using shaders.
